March... already?

Ummm, yikes. I can't believe it's been so long since we've gotten on here. I mean, I know everyone said when you have kids your time flies... but dang, we're scooting right along.

What an amazing two months it's been since we've welcomed Sutton into the world. He's an amazing little baby that has so much interest into everything that's going on around him. He's extremely alert and sometimes that's to his downfall because he wants to be awake so much and see everything going on and take it all in, that he forgets that he's a baby sometimes and needs his sleep. So he tends to get cranky every now and again, but for the most part is usually content with being happy and adorable.

Since we've posted last he's had quite a few new experiences. He got to go down to the farm to be with granndpa and grandma Schweitzer for a little bit. It was a quick trip so dad could change the oil in the car and work on a few other things. I will say Sutton was a huge help with everything I worked on in the shop... o wait, no he was too busy keeping mom and grandma entertained in the house while I froze outside.

Our little boy also had to go in for a little bit of surgery here this last month as well. Katie had been noticing that he never really stuck his tongue out, seems weird right since you wouldn't think you'd want your kid to stick his tongue out at you. But, she took him to the pediatrician and he was diagnosed with tongue tie. He told us it wasn't anything really to be worried about but that if we took care of it now it would heal quickly and would help him in the future with speech and help him with breast-feeding. So the appointment was made and we took him in. Holy cow, I know it wasn't a big deal and I would never tell my wife this... but it almost made me cry when we had to leave that little boy with the nurses and the surgeon. I mean it only took like 2 minutes for them to do it, but it seemed like an eternity sitting out in the waiting room for them to finish. I am proud to to say though that our son now moves his tongue around like a champ and can now slobber.... a lot. But we can tell a huge difference and he really seems to enjoy being able to move his tongue around his mouth.

I know these pictures aren't the best quality. But this kid does things so quickly that if you don't just take a quick snapshot with your phone... you'll probably miss it. So, we may just have some grainy images... but it doesn't matter because it's the memories people. I mean don't get me wrong... I love a good picture that's nice and crisp. But I also believe in catching the moment and that's what these say to me. Maybe we'll get better at keeping our digital cameras closer to us when we're walking around. This is our first go around though so we're still figuring it all out.

All of us are excited for some warmer weather and getting out of the house now again for some outdoor activites. Warmer weather brings new seasons and new experiences for the little one that I'm sure he'll meet with his already apparent thrill for life. We'll try and get better at keeping this thing updated too. I know, I know... I said that a month or so ago, but look at this face. It pretty much just takes up all our free time and it gets away from you.

Still here...

Holy cow... it was brought to my attention yesterday that it had been a little while since I've gotten on here. Come to find out, he's absolutely right. I hadn't even realized it had been so long.

We're still doing pretty good. Since we last spoke we've had a ton more snow and weather that makes it almost feel like spring. Crazy you say? No, that's just a common winter in Nebraska... you just never know what you're gonna get.

I will also say that it amazes me just how much this little guy of ours is changing. HOLY SMOKES!!! It's like a daily occurrence.

And he's only a couple weeks old. Dang man, he looks nothing like his newborn pictures anymore. People are saying he looks like his dad now, which on one hand might be a compliment but on the other... well I'm  sorry son. We'll just hope that you at least like your hair if you don't like your looks.

He's probably one of the best little babies I've ever come into contact with. He's pretty fun, likes to make faces, is cute, loves to sleep, is pretty agreeable (most of the time) and oh yea... he's cute :)

He's pretty much the cutest thing we've ever seen. I know I've said it before... but dang he changes a lot. We went to the Pediatrician for his 2 week checkup today. He weighed 8lbs 13oz, so he really is growing up. To be honest, there really isn't a whole lot more to say so we'll leave you with some more pictures. I know, you don't really get to see him that much... but let me tell you that this is going to be one photographed child.

We had the privilege of having the amazing Becky Novacek come out to the house his first week here on earth and take some of the most amazing newborn pictures I've ever seen. Seriously, as you can see... she does awesome work. She did our engagement and wedding pictures and she's the best at what she does. She just gets you and loves to catch you in the moment and we love that about her. I would highly recommend her for any pictures that you're thinking you want to do. She's easy to work with and is just a  blast to be around.

 

 

 

 

Mid-week update

As you probably already could have guessed, we're home. Released from the hospital Sunday afternoon and doing it "alone". Actually we've had a few visitors and have went out into the world the last two days for things and I have to say it's been going pretty well.

Our nights haven't been too terrible yet. We're still getting use to the boy and what his sleeping schedule is. The second night was probably the roughest. He was up for a long time nursing that night because he's like his dad and needs to eat. Last night however was the best of the three because he slept for almost four hours at a time... I know, be jealous. I will say, I don't think I've been peed on this much in my entire life. I'm not quick enough with diapers and wipes yet apparently.

We went to the pediatrician yesterday and Sutton's weight is back up to almost what it was when we left the hospital and his bilirubin count has started to go down. So it doesn't appear our son will be working on his tan anytime soon, which is fine with the both of us.

The visitors we've had since arriving home have actually been all family. My family was here Sunday night and then Katie's family came after them on Sunday as well. Monday brought a brief visit from my cousin Darren which the boy seemed to enjoy because he rarely gets held... right, as if you believe that. I'm telling you the truth when I say we do enjoy company people. I mean I don't want 30 at a time but a few now and then is good too.

We'll leave off with a few pictures from this last week. Katie bought some little onesies that have the days of the week on the front of them that we're taking his picture in for his first week here. It's hard to believe that tomorrow he'll wear the last one. Man, he's already growing up fast.

And about the only word that I can think of to describe it is AMAZING!!! We have a niece and nephew who I would say were perfect when they came and our little baby is no different. He is absolutely perfect in every way. He's cute, he's happy, he's healthy and o yea... did i forget to mention that he's cute? I'm most likely a little biased on my opinion of him, but I'm the dad so that's alright.

 To give you the specifics, he came into this world on January 14th 2011, at 5:08 pm. He weighed 8 lbs, and was 20 in. long. There really isn't a whole lot more for me to expand on, so I'll leave you with a few more pictures of him. More to come later I'm sure.

Snow...

Something we seem to be getting a lot of here the last few days. And all I can say is.... I hate the snow. I know it's good for moisture and some people think it's pretty (pastor George), but I just don't like it. I might have another view on it if I didn't have to shovel it from my driveway every time we get a new inch or two, but we can't focus on the what ifs people, we're dealing with the now.

I think the reason that I'm not all about snow at this specific time in my life is because I really don't want to have to home deliver my son. I know, it probably sounds awesome getting to have your son on the dining room table.... I'm sure that's every parents dream. I mean hello, you're right by your refrigerator and couch, you could have snack and a show all at the same time.

But the truth is, for me anyway, I'm perfectly fine with him being born in a facility where they know what they're doing. I mean, I don't even know what a turkey baster is so how am I suppose to navigate my son into this world. I just want to be able to get out of my driveway, head down the road a few miles to the hospital and let the fun begin. And that is why I don't like the snow. We're so greatly anticipating his arrival and I personally am looking forward to getting to drive my wife to the hospital when it's "time to go". I don't know why, again as I've stated before, I might be a freak.

So if the snow wants to hold off for a few days until he comes, or someone wants to donate a snowblower to me so I can make quick work of the task at hand... I would be grateful. Once he's here and we're at home, then it can snow all it wants and I won't care. Let's all pray that today is the day that our little boy decides to make his apperance shall we.

Almost there...

I will say, I can't really think of another time that I've been anticipating an event as much as this. Ok, I lied... my wedding would be the other day. I mean, what's better than marrying your best friend and getting to spend the rest of your life with them? The only other thing that comes to mind right now is having this baby.

We're both really excited for his arrival, Katie maybe a little more than I but that's just because I think she's getting tired of being a single parent :), and have tried just about everything to get him to come already. But, we're finally leaving it and coming to terms that God will let him come when he's good and ready.

To be honest, I'm sure God has a sense of humor and will most likely let his arrival be about when we have the most amount of snow of the ground. I think this because I believe God would get a good chuckle while watching me frantically scoop snow off my driveway so we can leave. Because if you know me I'm just that way. I hate ice and therefore we will not be driving on the snow so that I don't have to deal with that when we get home. I know, I'm a freak but I really don't care.

Anyway, we're still waiting and I'll let you know when he does decide to come. Right now, we're off to worship with our church family... and possibly say a little prayer that our little man comes real soon. Happy Sunday everyone!
